Artist's Statement:
The main focus of my work is space. When I moved from the city to the country in 1959 where all the growth was neglected and dense, my paintings reflected that dense imagery. I grew tired of that and after I saw the Amish country, my work became more open and simple and abstract. All that earlier work was all done directly from nature. Now after looking back through my sketch books, I came to my current work of small abstractions, quiet and ordered, puzzles, images from my mind and memories instead of nature.
