Statement
Ingersoll’s work at once merges organic and geometric elements, revealing the complexities of the human condition. Through explorations of natural subjects including water, dense woods, vines, and plants, she works to deconstruct the picture plane, to break it apart. The result is a sequence of grids, composed of overlapping lines, gestured brushstrokes, and bold color, which work together to reconstruct the picture plane as a series of equal, individual parts. Working an underlying structure, she subtracts and adds to the grid with spontaneous marks. This process of mapping and diagramming reads symbolically, suggesting expressions of the barriers from, or bridges to, relationships. Memories of place, personal and collective, are intertwined.
Ingersoll was formerly represented by the Phoenix Gallery in Chelsea, New York and has been exhibiting her work from Maine to Pennsylvania for the past 30 years. A former member of the Nexus Gallery, the Charles More Galleryand the Rosenfeld Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, she was a 2009 Fellowship recipient from the VA Center for the Creative Arts in Auvillar, France and received an individual artist Fellowship from the Independence Foundation in Philadelphia. From 1992-2004 she was a lead muralist for the internationally famous Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
