Artist's Statement:
Paul Keene's work reflects his ties to communities, places, his interests, and his love of jazz. Paris, Haiti, and North Philadelphia are mingled with Coltrane, Holiday, blues, hip hop, and African rhythms. His compositions blend history, mythology, and memory into a seamless whole. Keene's imagery is not just rendered as commentary, but observed, reconstructed, and reformulated into worlds that reflects and expand our understanding of the human spirit. -- Lewis Tanner Moore, 1998
